Richard has been practising in Exeter since 2004 and joined Southernhay Chambers in 2007.
Prior to recommencing his career at the Bar in 2004, Richardwas Legal Adviser to Central Devon Magistrates’ Courts for 12 years and then became Legal Team Leader at South Devon Magistrates’ Courts.
Family Law
Richard has particular expertise in all areas of family law which involve children or domestic violence. He is regularly instructed by family members, intervenors, Guardians and Local Authorities.
Immigration and Asylum Law
Richard undertakes all types of immigration work including advocacy at the Tribunal. He specialises in managed migration, asylum, human rights, EEA migration and entry clearance.
He is an Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme Assessor.
Prison Law
Richard represents prisoners at adjudications, recall hearings, Parole Board hearings, Lifer panels and in Judicial Review of decisions by prison governors, the Parole Board or the National Probation Service.
Judicial Review
Richard has wide experience of bringing Judicial Review proceedings, and accepts instructions both for and against Local Authorities in child care related cases.
