Areas of Expertise

Historically (during the period 1989/1998) this mainly comprised advice, drafting and representation in civil litigation of all sorts as well as some family law.  More recently my practice has concentrated solely on family law including public and private child law and financial provision for children and dependents and upon Divorce.  In terms of public law proceedings, I am experienced in representation of public authority litigants, involving a large number of expert and lay witnesses and numerous legally represented parties.  In terms of applications for financial provision, I have a long record of advice, drafting and representation in  complex and valuable cases  I regularly receive Instructions from the Official Solicitor In connection with cases concerning minors, and adults under a disability.

Throughout my career at the Bar I have had a particular interest in Private and Family Trusts, and Estate Planning generally; over recent years the larger proportion of my work has involved applications for financial provision, often in relation to wealthy individuals, which in turn may involve consideration of on and offshore trusts.

In 2002 I established a BVI Restricted License Trust Company, and became one of its first Directors; I was subsequently primarily responsible for management of that company, and the discretionary trust underlying it.  I am also closely concerned (sometimes in the capacity of alternate Director) with the management of a medium sized trading company based in the BVI.  In particular, during a period of change and re organisation for the RLC and underlying trust and investments,  I  personally drafted all of the necessary company and trust documentation, provided strategic, tax and investment planning, and consulted with specialist advisors both on and offshore.

Alongside pursuing the International STEP Diploma, I am expanding my understanding of onshore capital tax treatment, probate and estate planning generally, with a view to providing clients with a comprehensive service.
