Areas of Expertise

Susan practises in all areas of family law – children matters and ancillary relief proceedings.  She specialises in care proceedings acting for Local Authorities, parents and Guardians in the County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal.  She also has experience in the field of Judicial Review and Human Rights.

She has particular experience in cases involving injury to children.  She has conducted many cases relating to brain injured babies.  The more serious fact finding hearings relating to emotional harm, sexual abuse and neglect also form a large part of her practice.

Susan has experience of cases involving international child abduction, and deals with applications to remove children to various jurisdictions.

General

Training is of particular interest to Susan and she regularly conducts seminars for solicitors as part of the Southernhay Chambers’ programme and in conjunction with other bodies.

Susan studied for her degree at Robinson College, Cambridge. After pupillage in London, she worked for 7 years in the legal department of a Local Authority.  She has been a member of Southernhay Chambers since 1996 when she decided to specialise in family law.  In 2005 she was appointed Joint Head of Chambers.

Susan lives in Devon with her husband and children.  She enjoys music and is a keen pianist and church organist.

She is a member of the Family Law Bar Association, and accepts publicly funded work with the exception of ancillary relief.

For several years Susan has been cited in Chambers & Partners Guide to the Legal Profession as a leading advocate on the Western Circuit.
