| Information for the general
public
If you are a member of the general public, you
cannot instruct a Barrister direct. (This is not permitted under
the rules governing the profession). You should first see a Solicitor
of your choice. If your Solicitor considers that it is necessary
for you to be represented by a Barrister, she/he will make the necessary
arrangements to instruct a suitably experienced Barrister on your
behalf.
For more information you can contact the Community
Legal Services Directory call centre by telephoning 0845 345 4345
or via their web site. Alternatively, The General Council of the
Bar publish a helpful booklet called "You and your Barrister",
and can be contacted by telephoning 020 7242 0082 or by writing
